Frequently Asked Questions
What does my adoption fee cover?
Your adoption fee helps cover the costs associated with the care and well-being of the animal you're adopting. This includes their spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, and any necessary medical treatments or surgeries. Additionally, the fee helps us provide food, shelter, and general care while the animal is in our foster program.
Am I able to foster before adopting?
We offer fostering as a way for you to take an animal into your home temporarily to see if they’re a good fit for your family and lifestyle before committing to adoption. Our Foster to Adopt program allows both you and the animal to get to know each other in a real-world environment, which helps ensure that the adoption is the right decision for both sides.
During the foster period, you can observe the animal's behavior, personality, and needs, and we can provide support along the way, including advice or additional resources. If you decide that you and the animal aren’t a perfect match, that’s okay! You can return the animal to the rescue, and we can help find them a better-suited home.
This approach helps reduce the likelihood of future rehoming, and it gives the animal a better chance of finding their forever home. Plus, fostering is a great way to make a difference in an animal’s life while you’re still figuring out if adoption is the right choice for you
I have found a stray cat/dog. What should I do?
Please contact the county the animal is located in to report a found animal. This is to ensure that the animal does not already have a family. If the animal is in Miami Dade please submit a lost/found pet report here. As a next step we ask that you submit a Form on our website. This form helps us gather important details, such as the animal’s description, location where it was found, and any potential identification markings.
Can I meet the animal I am interested in before applying for them?
We are a foster-based rescue, which means that instead of having a physical facility, all of our animals are cared for in loving foster homes. This allows them to get personalized attention and a better sense of their true personalities, which helps us match them with the right adopters. Since we don’t have a facility to visit, we arrange meet-and-greet opportunities once you’ve been approved for adoption.
Once your adoption application is approved, we’ll set up a time for you to meet the animal, where you can spend time with them, ask questions, and see how you all connect in a more relaxed environment.
What medical procedures will my dog/cat have done?
At our rescue, we believe in providing comprehensive care for every animal before they’re adopted. All of our animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped to ensure they’re healthy and safe. These essential services are part of our standard adoption process, so when you adopt, you can be confident that your new pet is ready for a happy, healthy life in your home. In addition to these standard procedures, some animals may require extra medical care, such as surgeries, dental work, or ongoing treatments for specific health issues.
Can you tell me more about a specific animal?
To learn more about a specific animal please submit an adoption application through our website. Once we receive your application, a member of our team will review it and reach out to you to discuss any questions you may have.
I submitted my application. When can I expect to get an answer?
Thank you so much for submitting an adoption application! We appreciate your interest in adopting and are excited to help you find the perfect companion.
Please note that we are a 100% volunteer-based organization, and our team members balance their rescue work with other commitments. As a result, response times can take a bit longer. We kindly ask that you allow up to 72 hours for a team member to get back to you.
We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding, and we'll be in touch as soon as possible to discuss the next steps in the adoption process!
Will you transport the dog/cat to me?
All of our animals are currently located in the Miami area, as we are a foster-based rescue. However, we understand that many adopters are located outside of Miami, and we are happy to offer transport options to help get your new pet to you. Once you’ve been approved for adoption, we can arrange for transportation to deliver your new companion to your home or a location that is convenient for you.
Why is a home check required?
As part of our adoption process, we require a home check to ensure that the animal is going to a safe and healthy environment. The home check helps us make sure that your home is a good fit for the animal, and that it will be a safe and comfortable place for them to thrive.
What happens if there are multiple applications for the animal I applied for?
Please note that we do not operate on a first-come, first-serve basis when it comes to adopting our animals. Instead, we carefully review each application and consider which home would be the best match for the individual needs of the dog. Our goal is to ensure a successful, long-term placement, so we take into account factors such as your lifestyle, experience with pets, and the specific needs of the animal.
